As winter approaches the folks in the Public Works Department will be gearing up to plow our roads again. They would very much like to leave all our driveways meticulously clear, but this would take a lot of time and the roads would not remain clear.
During a storm they must first keep the pavement, or traveled right-of-way, clear. After the storm they focus on “widening-out” and clearing the shoulders of the roads. This is when the driveway issue appears. They recognize this as very disheartening and irritating, but with your cooperation we can minimize the inconvenience. A sketch has been provided to explain how to reduce the possibility of being “plowed-in”. If you follow the sketch and clear in the direction of the traffic, and also clear an inlet next to your driveway as indicated in the sketch, snow from the plow will drop in the inlet and only a minimum amount of snow will end up at the end of your driveway.
Winter Mailbox Damage
The Public Works Department
makes every effort to avoid mailboxes
during winter road maintenance.
However, on occasion, a
mailbox may be damaged. If this
occurs, please contact Public Works
at 666-3503 and your mailbox will
be put back up as soon as time
allows. If the post needs to be
replaced, the department will
replace it with a temporary one.
Once the ground has thawed in the
spring, the department will replace
it with a permanent post.
Christmas Trees
The Public Works Department is
starting a Christmas Tree recycling
program this year. How will this
work? From January 2nd through
January 5th, Christmas trees may be
dropped off at the Public Works
facility at a designated area. Trees
must be under 6 inches in diameter
and no more than 10 feet tall.
