The Cathance River Education Alliance was created in 2000 as part of a land-use agreement between Highland Green Developer John Wasileski and the Topsham Citizen group, Topsham’s Future. It quickly became a living partnership that included the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust, area educators, various members of Highland Green residents and interested area citizens.

CREA is a membership organization and has a Board of about a dozen members and an Annual Meeting each spring. CREA’s rapid progress thus far is due in no small part to the energetic and creative leadership of the Executive Director, Rick Wilson and an equally impressive board of directors that range from high school teachers, community members and retired residents.

The purpose of CREA is to encourage and sponsor environmental, historical, cultural appreciation and enjoyment of the Cathance River watershed, a natural gem in the midst of ongoing development in Midcoast Maine. This effort includes trail maintenance, recreational and interpretive programs as well as educational resources for area students and teachers. The Ecology Center is the focal point of this effort.
