Open Farm Day & Art Trail

Sun, 07/17/2016 - 9:00am - 6:00pm
Bowdoinham event

The day will begin with farm tours at: Campo di fiori, Apple Creek Farm, Gruff Acres Farm, Life Force Farm, Blue Bell Farm Maine, Stonecipher Farm, Fairwinds Farm, Six River Farm, Havenridge Farm, Left Field Farm. East of Eden Flower Farm and Harvest Tide Organics. So come explore our local farms and see how our food is made! And because Bowdoinham is a "Very Crafty Town" we'll have Catmint Garden & Gallery, Swan Island Restoration, Morphee Creations, Watersong Music, Melissa M. Fiori, Debbie Spaulding, Diana Mosher, Starrocks, Steven Thomas Bunn Furnituremaker, Bloom, Jane Page-Conway Fine Art Photography and Merrymeeting Arts Center joining us with an Art Trail. Bowdoinham Historical Society will also have both the Jellerson School and Meeting House open for tours and The Long Branch School of Maine will have Tiny Home tours. Come see why Down East Magazine named Bowdoinham one of the "Best Places to Live in Maine"!

Then at 3pm the celebration will continue at Mailly Waterfront Park for a barbeque featuring fresh foods from local farms and live music. The Barbecue will be catered by The Texas Barbeque Company, a locally owned and operated catering business. Mark and Jen Wescott matched their love of Barbeque with the catering business in 2012 and are looking forward to applying their special recipes with locally grown and raised products! As they have a busy season lined up, they have teamed up with members of Village Lodge # 26 AF & AM the local Masonic Lodge in Bowdoinham. Masonry is one of the oldest Fraternities in the world and their charity within this community is extensive. Bowdoinham Historical Society will also be joining the barbeque with their famous strawberry shortcake.

Merrymeeting Trail Initiative and Kennebec Estuary Land Trust is sponsoring its 4th Annual Explore Merrymeeting Bay Bike Ride with Merrymeeting Wheelers.  This year the event is being expanded to include three led bike ride options for a range of abilities and interests.  All three led rides will leave from Mailly Waterfront Park.

10am - 8.2 mile ride along Pork Point Road.  This is one of the richest farming areas in Bowdoinham, so there are many farms to explore along this route.  This ride is good for kids.

11:30am - 40 mile ride through Bowdoinham, Richmond, and Topsham with short stops at farms on the route. This ride is best for intermediate or advanced riders.
