Merrymeeting Arts Center's Spring Show - “Skunk Cabbage and Other Stinky-helpful Plants.”

March 9, 2017

The Merrymeeting Arts Center (MAC) invites young artists under the age of 18 to submit works of art for its Spring Show, “Skunk Cabbage and Other Stinky-helpful Plants.”  The show opens on Friday, April 7, 2017 with a reception from 5-7 p.m. and will close on May 20th.  Works should be brought to MAC at 9 Main Street, Bowdoinham on Wednesday, April 5 from 3-5.  Delivery can be arranged for another time by calling or texting 207-504-1132.

Original student work in any medium or any size can be submitted for its first showing in the exhibit.  Works on paper may be pre-mounted on construction paper, but this is not required.  Each piece of art should have a label firmly attached to the back with the title of the piece, name of the artist, medium, and price.  If the piece is for sale, 30% of the sale will go to MAC.

Traditionally, themes for the young artist shows at MAC are related to the plant and animal life that can be found in vernal pools, a key feature of the spring woods in Maine.  This year’s star, skunk cabbage is a colorful plant that can be transplanted from the wild into gardens where they provide a lot of benefits.  Students are encouraged to represent skunk cabbage, or related stinky or helpful plants, in any whimsical depiction that appeals to them.

MAC will be collaborating with the Bowdoinham Community School Garden Project, the Bowdoinham Historical Society, and the Bowdoinham Public Library Plant Sale for this show.  For more information, call or text 207-504-1132.
