Peary’s was started by Brian Smith and Lily Montgomery in 2017, following the Death of Peary Merriman, who was a resident of Bowdoinham Estates and the first person to actually use the space as a garden.  The idea of a community garden was enthusiastically supported at the BCDI “Community Conversations” gathering in 2017. After the “Community Conversations” meeting in 2017, the garden was formally established by a committee of Brian, Lily, and Ian Jerolmack of Stonesipher Farm.

Members of the garden receive compost, water access, tools, seeds, tilling and garden advice as part of their membership. Brian has built a beautiful wood fired pizza oven at the garden, using his old granite survey monuments. The oven and the delicious pizza has been the focal point of several community, neighborhood, and garden functions. Residents are welcome to talk with Lily or Brian about using the pizza oven and site for their own functions. We encourage our entire community to come enjoy this beautiful space we have created together.

Please come by between 12-3pm and tour the garden - we look forward to seeing you there!
