Mr. Lamothe is also committed to making quality legal services accessible. By keeping overhead to a minimum, he is able to charge a reasonable hourly rate. (In appropriate personal injury cases, if the client so chooses, he does work on a contingency fee basis.)

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

EDUCATION

Mr. Lamothe attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he obtained a B.A. in Political Science in 1984 , graduating with "Highest Distinction & Honors". He also was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies.

After obtaining his Bachelors degree, Mr. Lamothe obtained his J.D. (or law degree) from the University of Maine School of Law in 1987. During law school, he received the Horace S. Libby Memorial Scholarship and awards in Evidence and Professional Responsibility. During law school, he also was a member of the Moot Court Board and held internships with the Maine Public Utilities Commission and Central Maine Power Company.

EXPERIENCE

Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Lamothe assumed a position as In-House Counsel at Central Maine Power Co. While there, he practiced primarily in the areas of litigation (personal injury and workers' compensation), contracts and employment law. In 1990 he left CMP to take a position as an associate at Friedman & Babcock in Portland, Maine. There he had primary responsibility for the firm's new workers' compensation practice. He also handled other cases in the firm's diverse litigation practice, including personal injury, products liability, medical malpractice, employment and other civil litigation.

In 1997, Mr. Lamothe left Friedman & Babcock and started his own practice. In October 2002 he opened a second office in Brunswick. (Please refer to the Areas of Practice Page for specific areas of his practice.)

LICENSES

Mr. Lamothe is admitted to practice before all Maine courts and before the U.S. District Court (District of Maine) and U.S. Court of Appeals (First Circuit).

MEMBERSHIPS

Mr. Lamothe is a member of various bar associations: the American Bar Association, Maine State Bar Association, Cumberland Bar Association and the Bath-Brunswick Bar Association.

Mr. Lamothe also is a member of the Merrymeeting Bay Business Association (Executive Committee member), the Brunswick Downtown Association and the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber of Commerce. He also is a member of the Brusnwick Rotary Club and of the Advisory Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath-Brunswick.
