At a meeting on Tuesday evening, February 16, the Bowdoinham Select Board voted unanimously to hire Nicole Briand as the town’s next Town Manager. Briand, who has served as Bowdoinham’s Director of Planning & Development for 10 years, has served as Interim Town Manager since August 2020.
This announcement followed a broad-based, professional search that attracted 48 candidates from around the state and beyond. The Select Board enlisted David Barrett of the Maine Municipal Association to facilitate the search process, which included multiple rounds of interviews with the Select Board, both remote and in-person. Three highly qualified finalists were also interviewed by a panel of five Bowdoinham residents.
Based on that process, Select Board Chair David Engler entertained the motion to hire Briand during the board’s meeting on Tuesday night. It was moved by Select Board member Mark Favreau and seconded by Vice Chair Jeremy Cluchey. The vote was 5-0.
“Nicole has done an incredible job for Bowdoinham over the years, and she has demonstrated deep competency and dedication to our Town, our employees, and our residents,” Engler said. “All of us on the Board have great confidence in Nicole’s ability to step into this important role at this critical moment. We are looking forward to continuing to work with Nicole to make Bowdoinham an even greater place to live and work.”
“I am excited for this next chapter in my career with the Town of Bowdoinham,” said Briand. “This is a wonderful, engaged community, with a talented staff and active volunteers. Together I know we will do great things on behalf of the Town, and I am looking forward to getting to work.”
Briand joined the Town of Bowdoinham in 2007 as Town Planner and Code Enforcement Officer, becoming Director of Planning & Development in 2011. In that role she led many high-profile projects, worked closely and effectively with Town committees, and organized major events including the annual Celebrate Bowdoinham festival. Briand previously served as Interim Town Manager in 2019. She lives in Richmond with her family.
