The Town is seeking a part-time Assessor’s Agent.
The Town of Bowdoinham is seeking a highly qualified candidate (or company) to fill the position of Assessor’s Agent. This position is for approximately 16 hours per week and involves administrative work in the office and fieldwork. The Assessor is required to exercise considerable independent judgment in administering the assessment program within general policy guidelines and is subject to state laws and regulations, stated in (Title 36, M.R.S.A).
This is a specialized administrative and technical position in the valuation and assessment of real and personal property for the Town of Bowdoinham. The Assessor, as an agent of the State of Maine, is responsible for mass appraising real estate and personal property for the purposes of distributing fair and equitable taxation within the Town and for the administration and maintenance of all records necessary to administer the assessment program, and for performing regular revaluations and/or market adjustments as needed.
The City Assessor manages the day-to-day operations of the assessing administrative process. Employee must exercise tact, courtesy, and firmness in frequent contact with the public. This position is also responsible for statutory required data records management, customer service and providing all necessary public assessing data as required by law.
This position requires a Certified Maine Assessors (CMA) designation. A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, or related field is preferred. Considerable experience in property assessment work involving maintenance of standard office records, personal property assessment calculations, state sales ratio analysis performed, tax commitment preparation, evaluating land and building assessments or any equivalent of experience and training is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid appropriate State of Maine motor vehicle operator's license.
