√         To hear presentations from Corrie Calderwood and Jason Knight on the Teach for Tech grants each has received

√         Acknowledge receipt of $500 donation from the Mingo Club of Harpswell to provide books for Harpswell Community School students (particularly students who might otherwise not be able to purchase books from the Book Fair), and in accordance with Board practice to accept the donation in the amount of $500

√         Acknowledge receipt of $4,000 donation from Safe Harbor Great Island (formerly the Great Island Boat Yard) in support of the Harpswell Community School Water Safety/Learn to Swim Program, and in accordance with Board practice to accept the donation in the amount of $4,000

 

√          Mt. Ararat High School/Region Ten students who medaled in their events at the March 15th Maine SkillsUSA competition:

 

  • Page Hokulani Bell 12th grade - bronze medal in Automotive Refinishing
  • Decosta Jones 12th grade – gold medal in Automotive Tool Identification

 

√         Acknowledge donation of 49 tickets from Portland Sea Dogs for all MSAD 

No. 75 transportation employees for April 17th game as part of Teacher Appreciation Week

 

√         Middle School Battle of the Books – Affectionately called “BOB,” approximately 190 students in Grades 4-8 formed teams to see who could answer the most questions about this year’s Maine Student Book Award winners.  Williams-Cone School’s “Spicy E-Orhs” took first place.

 

√         Pi Day (March 15th) – 165 Middle School Eagles stepped up to the plate to recite ten or more digits of Pi.  Among them two students were able to correctly recall over 100 digits:

 

                        Dashiell Legawiec (8th grade) with an even 100 digits

                        Imogen Dedek (6th grade) with 111 digits

                                    Sadie Wigmore (6th grade) with 219 digits

                                    Jenna Holden (8th grade) with 227 digits

                                    Avah Kinney (6th grade) with 252 digits

                                    School winner: Derek Corliss (8th grade) with 269 digits

6.4                  To consider appointing two Board members to a Strategic Planning Committee 

                        

6.5                  In accordance with Board policy, to consider the approval of an out-of-State field trip on April 11, 2024, by Harpswell Community School fifth graders to Boston, MA

 

6.6                  In accordance with Board policy, to consider the approval of a sailing excursion on June 3, 2024 (rain date June 4, 2024) by Harpswell Community School  fifth  graders

6.7                  To consider appointing Board members to serve on a Technology Committee

                        

6.8                  To consider action to change the 2023-24 school calendar and cancel school during the April 8, 2024, solar eclipse due to safety concerns, and to make up the day on June 10th, with the last day of school being a half-day on June 11th
